Strawberry lovers turn out for parade, festival

A parade through downtown Garden Grove got things rolling Saturday as the 54th Annual Strawberry Festival moved into day 2. The festival started Friday evening.

Earlier, a pancake breakfast welcomed the early risers.

With a theme of "Honoring First Responders" the event is touted by organizers as one of the largest and oldest community festivals in the western U.S.

The four-day festival this year will feature: a parade, live musical entertainment, celebrities, a baby pageant, a contest for red-heads, food booths, 180 vendors and rides that range from a Merry Go Round for the younger ones to a rollercoaster for the hard-core.

The festival is free, but the rides range in price. Wrist bands are available that entitle the wearer to all rides for $30 from Saturday through Monday.

Last year, the festival drew some 250,000 visitors over the weekend, organizers said.
