OSWEGO, N.Y. --The Connecticut College men's hockey team scored twice in the closing 2:11 of regulation and J.J. McGregor (Wichita, Kan.) tallied the only goal in the shootout to propel the Camels in the third place game of the Pathfinder Bank Classic hosted by SUNY-Oswego that ended in a 3-3 tie with Hamline University.
Sophomore Keith Veronesi (South Glastonbury, Conn.) supplied the equalizer, his team leading sixth marker of the season with just 14 seconds left to help propel the Camels to the point.
Sophomore defender Kevin Reich (Montvale, N.J.) closed the gap to 3-2 with his goal at 17:49 of the third period.
Andrew Margolin (Mahwah, N.J.) stopped 25 shots in goal for the Camels, while Matt Hemingway (Alexandria, Minn.) finished with 22 saves for the Pipers.
Some stellar play on special teams provided a nice boost for the Camels at both ends of the ice.
Connecticut College was 3-for-8 on its power play and limited the Pipers to one goal on eight extra man opportunities at the other end of the ice.
Senior Sean Curran (Wilmette, Ill.) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the game. Curran dished out his team-leading 11th and 12th assists in the two contests.
Veronesi and McGregor both finished with a goal and an assist in Saturday's game.
Sophomore forward Cam Stowers (Spring, Tex.) recorded a goal and an assist for Hamline.
The Camels dropped a 5-1 decision to the second ranked Lakers of SUNY-Oswego Friday night.
A young Camel defense kept the Camels in contention. After being out-shot 8-to-1 in the early going, the Camels settled in and were out-shot 14-to-10 in period one.
Dawson Luke (Wellesley, Mass.) and Mike Doyle (Merrimac, Mass.) chipped in at the defensive end for Head Coach Jim Ward's squad.
In the end, the Lakers, who carried a 9-1-2 record into the weekend, were able to take control in the middle period and pull away for the 5-1 win.
Junior forward Luke Moodie (Burlington, Ontario) finished with two goals and an assist for the hosts.
Doyle absorbed a hit that led to a five minute major penalty that led to the Camels' lone goal in the third period of action.
McGregor potted the 19th goal of his career at 9:34 of the third with assists coming from Curran and junior Sean Murray (Stamford, Conn.). The Camels will host the Curry College Colonels this Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. game at Dayton Arena.
